The Vergina Sun also known as the “Star of Vergina” is a rayed solar symbol appearing in ancient Greek art. The Vergina Sun proper has sixteen triangular rays. The name “Vergina Sun” became widely used after the archaeological excavations in and around the small town of Vergina, in northern Greece, during the late 1970s. As in all handmade items, there may be small differences in weight and dimensions and this is what makes them unique and precious.

Alexander the Great (356 BC – 323 BC), also known as Alexander III was a king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon. He is considered as one of the greatest and most successful military strategists of world history.
The specific coin was minted at about 287 BC, after Alexander’s death, by king Lysimachos, one of the generals of Alexander the Great, who inherited the throne of Thrace after his death.
The original coin is actually exhibited in the Greek Numismatic Museum.
