Theodora was empress of the byzantine empire wife of Emperor. The ring is embellished with a pretty filigree with refined pattern. The art of filigree dates back to ancient history. The first of the found jewelry in this technique have been found in Mesopotamia and dates to thousands of years BC. In the ancient world and particularly in Asia Minor, the art of granulation grew were at the highest level, where they were inherited by the Byzantine Empire.

Lapis lazuli or lapis for short, is a deep blue metamorphic rock used as a semi-precious stone that has been prized since antiquity for its intense color. At the end of the Middle Ages, lapis lazuli began to be exported to Europe, where it was ground into powder and made into ultramarine, the finest and most expensive of all blue pigments. It was used by some of the most important artists of the Renaissance and Baroque, including Masaccio and Vermeer. It still continues to be popular today and remains one of the most important opaque gemstones.
