While the primary weapon in battle was the long spear (dory), the sword served as a crucial secondary weapon. Typically, this was the xiphos—a short, leaf-shaped blade that widened at the center and tapered to a sharp point. Its design made it highly effective for both slashing and thrusting, offering versatility in close-quarters combat.
