Greek Ancient Minoan Bees Pendant In Sterling Silver. The Malia honeybee pendant was discovered at Chryssolakkos, of the Minoan Palace of Malia on the island of Crete, and is thought to date to c.1800 BC. The named Chryssolakkos that means the “pit of gold” because of the precious objects that the farmers used to find there. The Minoan Palace is situated 3 km east of Malia town and is the third most significant known Minoan Palace after Knossos and Phaistos.
This pendant is in the shape of two bees, or wasps, storing away a drop of honey in a comb.

Greek Ancient Minoan Bees Earrings In Sterling Silver. The Minoan Bees Pendant, one of the most famous Minoan artworks, was discovered in the Old Palace cemetery at Chrysolakkos, outside the palace of Malia, the third largest and most significant known Minoan palace after Knossos and Phaistos. Chryssolakkos means the “Pit of gold” because of the many precious objects that were found there. The famous pendant dates back to the Bronze Age, (1800 BC) and it’s a stunning, very detailed representation of two bees or wasps storing away a drop of honey in their honeycomb. This pendant is one of the most famous exhibits in the wonderfully Heraklion archeological museum.

Ο Λεωνίδας ήταν πολεμιστής βασιλιάς της ελληνικής πόλης-κράτος της Σπάρτης. Αναμφισβήτητα, ένας από τους μεγαλύτερους ήρωες στην ιστορία της αρχαίας Ελλάδας. Το 480 π.Χ. ο Λεωνίδας ηγήθηκε ενός στρατού 6.000 έως 7.000 Ελλήνων από πολλές πόλεις-κράτη, συμπεριλαμβανομένων 300 Σπαρτιατών, οι οποίοι πολέμησαν τον περσικό στρατό που εισέβαλε από το πέρασμα των Θερμοπυλών. Ο Λεωνίδας της Σπάρτης έκλεισε τον μοναδικό δρόμο από τον οποίο μπορούσε να περάσει ο τεράστιος στρατός του Ξέρξη. Οι Πέρσες κατάφεραν να νικήσουν τους Έλληνες αλλά υπέστησαν μεγάλες απώλειες. Ένας ντόπιος κάτοικος ονόματι Εφιάλτης οδήγησε τον Πέρση στρατηγό από μια ορεινή πλαγιά στο πίσω μέρος των Ελλήνων. Ο βασιλιάς Λεωνίδας απέστειλε όλα τα ελληνικά στρατεύματα και έμεινε πίσω με 300 Σπαρτιάτες, 400 Θηβαίους και 700 Θεσπιείς εθελοντές που αρνήθηκαν να φύγουν. Ο Ήλιος της Βεργίνας είναι ένα αρχαίο ελληνικό σύμβολο που απεικονίζεται σε διάφορα αρχαιολογικά ευρήματα, όπως αγγεία και νομίσματα, αλλά έγινε ευρέως γνωστό λόγω της απεικόνισης του στη χρυσή λάρνακα που βρέθηκε το 1977 σε Βασιλικό τάφο ο οποίος αποδίδεται στη Μακεδονική Βασιλική Δυναστεία του Φιλίππου Β΄ και του Μεγάλου Αλεξάνδρου.

On the reverse side is the inscription “μολών λαβέ” which means “come to get”. This phrase was the answer to Xerxes when he asked him to hand over the arms of the defending Greeks to the Thermopylae. Leonidas was a warrior king of the Greek city-state of Sparta. Arguably, one of the greatest heroes in the history of ancient Greece. In 480 B.C Leonidas led an army of 6,000 to 7,000 Greeks from many city-states, including 300 Spartans, who fought the invading Persian army at the pass of Thermopylae. Leonidas of Sparta blocked the only road through which the massive army of Xerxes could pass. The Persians succeeded in defeating the Greeks but sustained heavy losses. A local resident named Ephialtes led the Persian general by a mountain track to the rear of the Greeks. King Leonidas sent away all the Greek troops and stayed behind with 300 Spartans, 400 Thebans, and 700 Thespian volunteers who refused to leave. They were all killed on the battlefield, protecting their homeland.

Molon labe, meaning ‘come and take [them]’, is a classical expression of defiance. It is among the Laconic phrases reported by Plutarch, attributed to King Leonidas I in reply to the demand by Xerxes I that the Spartans surrender their weapons. The exchange between Leonidas and Xerxes occurs in writing, on the eve of the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC).

The rosette (rose) is a timeless jewel, symbol and amulet. The origin of the term is the Greek word for rose – rodon (ρόδον). Its use began in the Mycenaean era and continues as far as the 2nd millennia BC. The Mycenaean Rosette is a motif that was widespread throughout Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece and other ancient civilizations. Rosette or Rodax was probably the most popular and favorite decorative element in Mycenaean era, classical antiquity and Byzantine times.

A tsarouchi (τσαρούχι) is a type of shoe, which is typically known nowadays as part of the traditional uniform worn by the Evzones of the Greek Presidential Guard. Their origin goes back to the Byzantine times. Originally, various types of similar shoes were worn all over the Balkans, but tsarouchia are mainly associated with the Greeks. They were the most common footwear worn by both urban and rural Greeks, mainly men, but also many women. After the Greek independence in early 19th century, their use was limited to isolated rural areas and nomadic populations. Tsarouciia provide a clear link with the origin of the Evzone uniform in the traditional Greek costume, and with the fact that Evzones were largely enlisted from rural mountainous regions of Greece. Nowadays they are almost exclusively used by the presidential guard and in various traditional festivals and dances along with other traditional Greek garments.(source wikipedia)

Το μενταγιόν της μέλισσας των Μαλίων ανακαλύφθηκε στον Χρυσόλακκο, του μινωικού παλατιού των Μαλίων στο νησί της Κρήτης, και πιστεύεται ότι χρονολογείται γύρω στο 1800 π.Χ. Το όνομα Χρυσόλακκος σημαίνει “λάκκος του χρυσού” λόγω των πολύτιμων αντικειμένων που συνήθιζαν να βρίσκουν εκεί οι αγρότες.
