Η ελιά στην Αρχαία Ελλάδα ήταν σύμβολο του Ολυμπιακού ιδεώδους, αφού ένα κλαδί ελιάς ήταν το μοναδικό έπαθλο για τους Ολυμπιονίκες. Η ελιά συμβολίζει την ειρήνη, τη νίκη, την τιμή και την ευημερία.
