The symbol and superstition of the evil eye is one of the strongest symbolic images in the world. The earliest known evidence for belief in the evil eye goes back to ancient Greece and Rome. It is supposed to wear off evil to anyone who wears it and various cultures believe in that, however in Greece, it’s blue because at that time blue eyes were not so common and were thought to give the evil eye, so the blue is like a mirror to them. Το στεφάνι ελιάς ήταν το έπαθλο του νικητή στους αρχαίους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες. Σύμφωνα με τον Παυσανία, εισήχθη από τον Ηρακλή ως έπαθλο για τον νικητή των αγώνων, για να τιμήσει τον πατέρα του Δία. Στους αρχαίους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες δεν υπήρχαν χρυσά, αργυρά ή χάλκινα μετάλλια. Υπήρχε μόνο ένας νικητής ανά εκδήλωση, ο οποίος στέφονταν με ένα στεφάνι ελιάς.

Το σχέδιο του Μαιάνδρου είναι ένα διακοσμητικό περίγραμμα κατασκευασμένο από μια συνεχή γραμμή, διαμορφωμένο σε ένα επαναλαμβανόμενο μοτίβο. Το συναντάμε επίσης με την ονομασία “ελληνικό κλειδί”. Από τη μία πλευρά, το όνομα μαίανδρος θυμίζει τη στροφή του ποταμού Μαιάνδρου στη Μικρά Ασία, και από την άλλη, όπως τόνισε ο Karl Kerenyi, «ο μαίανδρος είναι η μορφή ενός λαβύρινθου σε γραμμική μορφή». Λόγω της έλλειψης αρχής και τέλους, γίνεται το σύμβολο της μακράς ζωής και της αιωνιότητας. Ένα από τα αρχαιότερα μοτίβα που έχει διακοσμήσει πολλούς ναούς και αγάλματα.

Η θεά Αθηνά συνδέεται με τη σοφία, τη χειροτεχνία και τον πόλεμο. Η Αθηνά θεωρούνταν προστάτιδα και φύλακας διαφόρων πόλεων σε όλη την Ελλάδα, ιδίως της πόλης της Αθήνας, από την οποία πιθανότατα έλαβε και το όνομά της. Συνήθως απεικονίζεται στην τέχνη φορώντας κράνος και κρατώντας δόρυ. Τα κυριότερα σύμβολά της περιλαμβάνουν κουκουβάγιες, ελαιόδεντρα και φίδια. Οι ναοί της βρίσκονταν στην κορυφή της οχυρωμένης Ακρόπολης στο κεντρικό τμήμα της πόλης. Ο Παρθενώνας στην αθηναϊκή Ακρόπολη είναι αφιερωμένος σε αυτήν, μαζί με πολλούς άλλους ναούς και μνημεία. Αυτό το κομψό και όμορφο μενταγιόν είναι εμπνευσμένο από τη βυζαντινή ιστορική περίοδο με σεβασμό στην ελληνική παραδοσιακή τέχνη.
Το Lapis lazuli ή Lapis για συντομία, είναι ένα βαθύ μπλε μεταμορφωμένο πέτρωμα που χρησιμοποιείται ως ημιπολύτιμος λίθος και έχει εκτιμηθεί από την αρχαιότητα για το έντονο χρώμα του. Στο τέλος του Μεσαίωνα, το Lapis lazuli άρχισε να εξάγεται στην Ευρώπη, όπου αλέστηκε σε σκόνη και έγινε υπεραμαρίνα, η καλύτερη και ακριβότερη από όλες τις μπλε χρωστικές ουσίες. Χρησιμοποιήθηκε από μερικούς από τους σημαντικότερους καλλιτέχνες της Αναγέννησης και του Μπαρόκ, όπως ο Μασάτσιο και ο Βερμέερ. According to Pausanias it was introduced by Heracles as a prize for the running race winner to honour his father Zeus. In the ancient Olympic Games there were no gold, silver, or bronze medals.
